

Annie Pauline (Polly) Jones Bowen went home to be with her Lord early Wednesday morning, May 21, 2014. She was surrounded by her five children who felt God's grace as she peacefully entered the Kingdom of God.
Polly was born January 12, 1927 to James Wiley and Josephine Allie Etta Jones in Climax, Georgia. She is survived by her children, Paula Steele, Joedna McDowell (Warren), Clara Grammer (Lanny), Rhonda Hand (Tarvin Rhodes), Sidney Hand (Charlotte), 2 step-daughters, Alice Dixon and Iva Pittman, 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren another due in August, and 2 great-great-grandchildren She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Maurice Thomas Hand, then later in life, Calvin Bowen, her four sisters, and one step-son.
Mrs. Bowen was a talented artist, seeing beauty in even the ordinary, who throughout her lifetime painted and drew for the benefit of others. She contributed to community projects with her art skills in Decatur County, as well as owned and operated the Climax Coffee Shop, known for her delicious grilled foods, chili, and mile-high meringue pies. She also had a beautiful singing voice and was honored to sing in the local Messiah for a number of seasons. One of her proudest moments was as a teenager she was asked to continue singing the Lord's Prayer on the local radio as the bombing of Pearl Harbor was announced. She also wrote many beautiful poems and short stories, many of which reflected her life experiences. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Azalea Garden Club for many years.
To her family and friends she leaves a legacy of funny stories, animated conversations, and countless precious memories. She loved her cats, Gizmo and Greybaby immensely, and was protective and loving towards all creatures.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ivan Grammer, Nicholas Zorn, Tommy Brooks, Aleric Shearer, Matthew Hand, and John Hand. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. William Grubb and staff, Dr. Duane Moores and staff, Hospice of the Golden Isles.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Twitty Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Brunswick, where Mrs. Bowen held a lifelong membership with Reverend Jim Crandall officiating. Interment will follow the service at Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.
Family will be receiving friends from 5 PM to 8 PM Monday, May 26,, 2014 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
