Bessie was born May 25, 1935 in Perry, South Carolina the daughter of the late Arnold Rish and the late Thelma Sally Rish. She was also preceded in death by her late husband, Dan C. Herring Jr.; also a stepson, Frank Herring.
Bessie was a graduate from Berry College in Rome, Georgia with a BS IN Early Childhood Development. She was a retired teacher with Ballard Elementary School in Brunswick. Bessie was a Lady of Faith and was a member of First Baptist Church. She always enjoyed the Christian fellowship at the church and was a member of the Love and Actions Sunday School Class.
Left to cherish Bessie’s memories are her daughter, Carla Herring of Brunswick, GA; a twin sister, Betty Head (Don) of Rome, GA; a brother, Elmer Rish (Ernestine) of Perry, GA; two stepsons, Dan Herring of Oklahoma City, OK and Mike Herring of Saint Simons Island, GA. Several step grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.
Bessie was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend to many. Her daughter was her heart. She enjoyed traveling with her friends to Broadway Shows in New York. She was a good cook and an avid reader. Bessie will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
The family will receive friends between 10:00 – 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service to honor Bessie’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Chris Winford and Pastor Larry Wilbur officiating. The burial will follow the service in Palmetto Cemetery.
