

Carl Lane Atkinson, Sr., 73, of Brunswick, died Sunday, April 15, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, April 20, 2012 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Bishop Dean Wilson officiating. Pallbearers will be members of the priesthood. Interment will follow in Chapel Park Cemetery with full military honors.
Born October 12, 1938 in Elizabethtown, NC to the late Charles Clyde and Vera Crosby Melvin Atkinson, he was a retired Chief Petty Officer from the US Navy, and was a former employee with the Georgia Department of Labor as a safety inspector. Mr. Atkinson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and had resided in Glynn County for over 17 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and was an avid movie buff. Other activities that he enjoyed were travel and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 8 brothers, Charles Crosby Atkinson, Roger Atkinson, Claude Atkinson, John Atkinson, Mark Randolph Atkinson, , Robert Earl Atkinson, Alford Clyde Atkinson, and Wiley Clay Atkinson, and 4 sisters, Korein Eagan, Bess Wiseman, Ethel Atkinson, and Effie Margaret Atkinson.
Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Ethel E. Atkinson of Brunswick, two sons, Carl Lane Atkinson, Jr., of Brunswick, USMC Lance Corporal Zachery Dale Atkinson and wife Constance of 29 Palms, CA, three daughters, Patricia Dianne Beach of Port Royal, SC, Paula Denise Valliere and husband Gene of Palm Coast, FL, and Pamela Deneen Allen of Brunswick, eleven grandchildren, Stephen Bridges, Charles Bridges, Amy Denise Tihlarik, Bill Napier, Jr., Mathew Allen, Katelynn Huckabaa, Kristen Huckabaa, Keira Atkinson, John Beach, Justin Beach, and Nicholas Beach, two great grandchildren, Emma Denise Tihlarik and Alexander Louis Atkinson, three sisters, Lee Lorenz of Henderson, Nevada, Sallie Eddy of Lehi, UT, and June Watkins of Taylors, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, The American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, and the American Legion. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, April 19, 2012 from 6PM until 8 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. www.edomillerandsons.com
