It's been almost three years since that fateful day that Grandma called me. It had been the day after my step-sister's wedding, and I was eating leftovers from the wedding. I remember falling to the floor, that my step-mother had gotten the phone from me. I wrote a poem not long after that, wishing I could have said more that I had to him. I realize now how much I'm impacted by my Pop, how much I miss him. How I will drink coffee black sometimes, in his memory, even though I do not like it (neither did he, I asked him once why he drank it -"It helps with my throat in the morning," he said.). Every time I smell coffee, I remember him. Every time I eat a chocolate chip cookie, I remember always getting cookies for me and him out of the cookie jar. One time, he took both cookies that I had gotten one for him and one for me. He quickly ate both, and I protested. I wanted my cookie back. He only laughed and told me to hold out my hand, which I did. He went to stick his finger down his throat as a joke, and of course I just went and got another cookie. 

I hate how now, I realize how much I miss him, in a time where I'm facing life straight in the face and wishing I had chosen to spend my time more wisely. Wishing I would have listened to him more.

Dear Mom and Family, it hurts me to accept that Dad is gone. Let us remind ourselves that he his no longer suffering and waiting for all of us to be with him once more. May our thoughts and actions hearten him as he embarks on his final journey and let God bless him with a heavenly host of Angels to guide him through the Pearly Gates. Let us be blessed to know a great Man, Husband and Father is now watching over us. Atkinson Family, join me in keeping Dad's memory alive through the ages and continue to make him proud. I love you all, may life bring you all peace and serenity.

Aunt Ethel and Family,
I can't tell you how sorry I was to hear of Uncle Lane's passing away. He was an amazing man and such a joy to be around. I am so thankful that I was able to sit and visit with him on our last visit to White Lake, and am doubly grateful that I was able to speak with him on the phone for a while last fall. I hope that you all have comfort that he is in a better place reunited with my dad, Uncle Duncan and Uncle Claude, although they're probably already in trouble up there. Sarah and I send our love and you are in our prayers.

Ethel & Family, what does one say when they loose a husband & father & a brother.  He was my brother and I loved him, and as we talked almost every day, I only came to love him and to know him even more.  He was a comfort to me in so many ways and I know he is so proud of the way you  took care of him while he was ill and especially at the funeral.  He loved you and talked of your kindness to him every day.  He is at peace and missing you but enjoying all of his family, his parents, his sisters and brothers who have passed on before him. I can in my minds eye see him walking and talking and laughing  and more than anything else watching over you.  May Heavenly Father bless you now and help you go through this time of grief, when you are pondering the wonderful times you have had together throughout your life. My thoughts and prayers to the Atkinson family. Some of my fondest memories come from the years I spent in Virginia Beach with my best friend Patricia, loving daughter of Carl. He always treated me like family on the dozens of sleep-overs Patricia and I had, not to mention his patience and tolerance because of our endless hours of laughter and being teenagers. May God comfort you during this difficult time, and fill your heart and minds with the celebration of his life and the blessings he has left behind in all of you.

Grandma,
I am very sad about grandpa. I will miss him very much. He taught me how to play chess and I am the only one in my whole class that knows how to play. He was a good grandpa and I will always remember the fun we had at the lake. I love you lots and mom said we can visit real soon. Love, Kristen

Aunt Ethel and family,

I was so sad to hear of Uncle Lane's passing.  I'm especially grateful for our last visit at the Lake with all of you, it was so comforting to me to talk with him when my Dad wasn't there.  I can't imagine what heaven must be like with Uncle Lane, Uncle Claude, Uncle Duncan and my Dad all together again!  Please know you are all in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.  We love you all and pray for comfort for you.

Hi, I am a second cousin to your husband.  I wish that I could have met him.  I am also a member of the LDS Church, having joined when I was 17.  Wish I could attend his service, but am sending you my thoughts and prayers.  God bless and comfort you now and always.
