Cormac Murray McGarvey, 83, passed away on July 16, 2025 after a long illness. Cormac was born in Savannah on August 20, 1941, son of Cormac McGarvey Sr. and Ethel Richardson McGarvey. He graduated from Glynn Academy in 1959 and the University of Georgia in 1965 where was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He served in the National Guard following college and after several years in Atlanta, he returned to live on St Simons. where he developed real estate in Brunswick and Fernandina Beach.
Cormac was a lovable character renowned for his sense of humor and storytelling ability. He had many friends throughout Georgia and beyond.
He is survived by his precious twin grandbabies, Griffin and Adalena McGarvey: and their mother Kathryn McGarvey: sisters; Kathleen Corbitt of St Simons, her children Madeline Briers of St. Simons and Matthew Corbitt of Charleston, SC, Carlotta Jernigan and her children: Michael, Carlotta Cannon, Tessa Powell and their children all of Jacksonville, FL, and Cecilia McGarvey of Savannah. His sister, Guignard, and both of his beloved sons, Kevin and Murray McGarvey predeceased him. Kevin’s recent death in January and the death of Genie, his former wife, last July left him profoundly depressed. He yearned to be reunited with all those he lost and is at last with them now in God’s glorious hands.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Friday, July 25, 2025 at St. William Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery with Howard Browning, Matthew Corbitt, Zachary Briers, Sam White, John Stubbs, and Stewart Pittman serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carroll Minnick, Johnny Cason, Raymond West, John Tuten, Joey Cruez, and Richard Armstrong.
