Don Dart was born in the Brunswick Hospital on November 13, 1951, to Opal and William Robert Dart and grew up in Brunswick with his two brothers, Bob and Bill. He graduated from Glynn Academy in 1969 and was the quarterback for the 1968 SE GA Regional Championship Team. After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1973 from the University of Georgia Don headed to Colorado. It was out West he discovered an enthusiasm for the food and beverage industry. Don helped open a restaurant in Baton Rouge before making his way back home to work at the Emmaline and Hessie during its golden years where he made lifelong friends. He pivoted again, working for King and Prince Seafood as a sales service representative for 15 years and finished out his career with his brother, Bill and nephew, Beau at Waterway/Corinthian Foods.
He loved UGA football, the Braves, golf, beach time and walking on St. Simons. Don was a loyal friend. Some of friendships dated as far back as preschool, lower school, many from high school, college and his morning coffee group at Parkers. Don was a lifelong member at the first Methodist church in
Brunswick.
He is survived by his loving companion, Patricia Blalock; nieces and nephews; Casey (Eric) Igel, SSI; Jessica Dart, ATL; Matt (Miller) Dart, SSI and Beau (Kate), SSI; Jennifer Dart (John) Raleigh, NC and Rob Dart, Los Angeles, CA; and great nieces and nephews: Will, Otto, Beau, Liza, Henry, Aline, Liam and Lera.
He was affectionately and long known locally by family and friends alike as "Uncle Don" and will be dearly missed.
He is predeceased by his parents and brothers. He is looking forward to being reunited with his brothers and rocking on the porch.
Don wanted everyone to know his obituary was written by “a bunch of Tech folks” and that they probably would leave out that one of the great joys of his life was cheering for the Dawgs and watching them win back-to-back National Championships.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, July 28 at the American Legion Hall on St. Simons from 5:00-8:00 for a Don Dart celebration. Services will be held on Monday, July 29 at 1:00 pm at Brunswick First United Methodist Church located at 1400 Norwich Street, Brunswick GA 31520. Burial will be immediately following at Palmetto Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles or The American Cancer Society.
