Donald E. Gleaton

Mr. Gleaton was a native of Ludowici, Georgia and raised in Brunswick. He was a graduate of Glynn Academy Class of 1951 and attended University of Georgia. He was retired Supervisor from Brunswick Pulp and Paper Co. (Ga. Pacific) in 1996..

Donald was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict.

He was a former member of the Exchange Club, Antique Car Club and the Brunswick Pulp and Paper Retirees Club. He joined the Lakeside United Methodist Church on June 26, 2005 and the Believers Sunday School Class.

Donald had a great since of humor and he loved cooking and watching the Georgia Bulldogs.

Sonja took wonderful care of Donald when his health failed. She clearly gives new meaning to “in sickness and in health.”

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor “Punky” Girardeau Gleaton, his parents, L. B. and Nell Burch Gleaton, and two baby sisters.

Survivors are his wife of 7 years, Sonja Svendsen Gleaton of Darien, sister, Sherrill Taylor (Gene) of Lajolla, CA., two sons, Jim Gleaton (Debra), Mike Gleaton (Melissa), two daughter, Donna L. Gleaton and Kathleen Gleaton Tovey all of Brunswick, a special Aunt, Dot Burch Roebuck of Brooklet, Ga., eight grandson and one granddaughter and three great grandchildren, and three special nieces.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 PM Tuesday 3/15/11 in the Lakeside United Methodist Church in Brunswick with Rev. Don Combs officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be present and former employees of Brunswick Pulp and Paper (Ga. Pacific), Believers Sunday School Class and Glynn Academy Class of 1951.

Visitation will be one hour before service at the Church.
