

Dorothy Alene McLain Carter, 87, of Darien, died Monday, October 18, 2010 at Hospice of The Golden Isles. Funeral services will be held 2 pm. Friday, October 22, 2010 at Northside Baptist Church in Darien with Pastor Matt Kunkle officiating. Interment will follow in St. Andrews Cemetery with Lance McLain, Allen McLain, Shane McLain, Greg Tillman, and David Eason serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Eason, Ellis Freeman, Rose Rowland, Dot Ives, and Jean Gregory.
Family will receive friends from 6 pm. till 8 pm. Thursday October21, 2010 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
Born June 29, 1923 in Appling County, Georgia, to the late John Franklin and Ruby Opehlia Stanfield McLain, and had been a residence of McIntosh County for 44 years. Mrs. Carter was a 1942 Valedictorian graduate of Surrency High School. She was employed by Altama Delta as a seamstress from which she retired. Mrs. Carter was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church from birth until she married in 1942. She also was a member Northside Baptist Church in Darien for 34 years; she enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Willie Charles Carter, a daughter Sue Carter Ferrante, seven sisters, and two brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Gayle Carter Crosby of Darien, and Elaine Carter Norris and husband Reggie of Baxley, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
