Douglas Eugene Bible was a quiet man except when he wasn’t. Being from Texas he could tell a tall tale that would last all night but, maybe that was because his manner of storytelling consisted of going through three barns, over two hills, crossing one stream, and around seven bushes before ever getting to the point. Oh, back to the point.
Just before Douglas and I got married (just a heads up, whenever putting his name in print it HAS to be Douglas never Doug. However, if you were speaking to him, you could call him Doug. This applied even to his wife, Debbie. Oh, back to the point.
Doug, OH NO, Douglas, loved many things. He loved SMU football, his greyhounds, his coins, SMU football, his fisherman’s vest with what seemed to be several hundreds of pockets (I have never known another man who loved pockets as much as Douglas.) He also enjoyed SMU Football and talking about SMU football to anyone who would listen, even perfect strangers.
He loved Jekyll Island beach walks and creating different accents for the many characters he played as a role-player at FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center). He loved watching the Bearded Butchers on YouTube, Swamp People, Mountain Men, and British Mysteries on TV. However, on the nights that Douglas and Debbie watched the British mysteries together the biggest mystery was where Douglas had left his nail clippers which he could never find even though we had several dozen pairs. Oh, back to the point.
So, what is the point?????
Douglas was a kind, funny, compassionate, hard-working man with a quick wit and a great sense of humor. His heart was as big as Texas. He loved his beautiful, amazing, talented, creative, brilliant wife (who, if you haven’t guessed, is writing this), his family In Texas and Virginia, South and North Carolina and his many friends all over the world. We will all miss him dearly. As his best friend since fourth grade, Keith Grantham, said upon hearing the news, “How will we ever live in a world without Doug?”
In closing, I am sure that upon reaching Heaven’s gates Douglas probably exclaimed, “Hibbita- Jibbita, I’m home!”
