Dwayne Lewis Johnson Sr., 64 of Brunswick, GA serenely passed on to be with the Lord while at his residence on Friday, December 27, 2013 with his devoted wife at his bedside; Mr. Johnson was under the care of Heartland Hospice. Memorial Services for Mr. Johnson will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time.
Dwayne was born to Kathleen Johnson and George Johnson (Estelle) on November 23, 1949. He was born in Brunswick, GA where he resided and proudly graduated from Glynn Academy High School. Following his graduation he readily enlisted in the United States Military as a Marine. He dutifully served our country from 1967-1970 in the Whiskey Battery 211 Artery Unit for three tours in Vietnam. After an honorable discharge, he worked for Brunswick Pulp and Paper for 19 years until retiring. Moreover, Dwayne also umpired for the Glynn County Recreation Department, coached baseball, and worked with the Boys Scout of America for several years. It was during this time that he positively influenced the lives of many. In addition, Dwayne served as an enthusiastic and active member of the Reunion Committee for the Glynn Academy Class of 1967, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Brunswick.
Dwayne was known and loved by many in the community. He never met a stranger and was never a stranger to anyone. He enjoyed spending his time fishing, playing cards, and spending quality time with friends and family. Furthermore, Dwayne was a miraculous 17-year survivor, not a victim, of a very aggressive form of cancer. Despite the recent reoccurrence of cancer, he lived a joyful life where he eagerly made the most of each moment with those around him. Dwayne is affectionately survived by his wife of 22 years, Cynthia Sue Johnson; five sons: Alfred Crum, Jimmy (Samantha) Crum, Dwayne Johnson, James Johnson, and Billy Johnson; three grandchildren: Dru Crum and Andrew and Brittney Johnson; two sisters: Jean Crews (Vernon) and Dianne Pafford (Larry) and his brother: Gregory (LJ) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents: Kathleen Johnson and George and Estelle Johnson.
In addition to celebrating Dwayne’s life, the family would like to impart humble appreciation to Dr. Antonio Moran and nursing staff, as well as to the staff of Heartland Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 664 Scranton Road, Unit 103, Brunswick, GA 31520.
