

Edward Arthur Snow, 86, of St. Simons Island passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Marsh's Edge. Mr. Snow was born Jan. 10, 1926, in Boston, Mass. He lived previously in Wickford, R.I., Norfolk, Va., and Puerto Rico while on active duty with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Snow was stationed in Brunswick at NAS Glynco, then in London, England. He returned to Brunswick in 1968. He had lived on St. Simons since 1978.
Mr. Snow grew up in Foxborough, Mass., and graduated from Foxborough High School in 1943. He enlisted in the Navy, where he served from 1944-1968. He served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Mr. Snow retired from the Navy as a Master Chief Store Keeper.
After retirement, Mr. Snow continued his education, graduating in 1969 from Brunswick Junior College with an Associate's Degree in Business. Mr. Snow was an assistant manager for Belk Hudson Department Store in Brunswick; Operations Manager for the Jack’s Minute Market Convenience Store Chain based in Brunswick; and was the owner of Glynn Package Stores Inc., with stores in Brunswick and the Village of St. Simons Island. In 1995 Mr. Snow sold Glynn Package Stores Inc. and launched a second retirement during which he enjoyed gardening, traveling, boating, golfing and his weekend place at Contentment Bluff in McIntosh County.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Snow, and a grandson, Will Hicks.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Bette” Sullivan Snow; his daughter, Leslie Snow Hicks, and son-in-law, Captain Andy Hicks; a grandson, Shelby Andrew Hicks; and two granddaughters, Frances Hicks and Genevieve Hicks, all of St. Simons Island.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2012, at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Andy Chambers officiating. Interment will follow the service.
