ELLEN ELIZABETH MORRIS CREWS was born in Griffin, Ga on August 21, 1929 and departed this life to come face to face with her loving Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ on January 3, 2019 in Brunswick, Ga at Southeast Georgia Health System.
Ellen moved to Brunswick with her family in 1943. In 1949, she married the love of her life Everett Randolph Crews. They celebrated 53 years of marriage before his death in 2002.
For many years, Ellen and Randolph were well known in the community for their association with the restaurant industry. They were graduates of the Advanced School of Ministry taught by their beloved now deceased son-in-law, Billy Godwin. They hosted a Bible study and prayer group in their home for many years.
Ellen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,as well as a special sister, aunt, and friend to many. She enjoyed being a mentor to many young women by teaching them skills such as, sewing, cooking, home decorating, gardening and parenting. She was a long time member of the YMCA and look forward to her exercise classes with her friends. She was a true southern belle in every sense of the word; gracious,generous, kind, and as a child of the Great Depression and World War II era she learned to be extremely resourceful, and creative.
Ellen was a charter member of Christian Renewal Church Brunswick where she served on the hospitality committee for many years and volunteered for 30 years for the Loaves and Fishes ministry providing food and clothes to those in need.
She was also predeceased by her parents Wilbur and Nell Morris, siblings, Wilbur Jr, Martha Nell, Marion (Buddy) and Larry.
She is survived by her son Everett Randolph (Randy) Crews, Jr. (Joni), and their children Shawna Crews, Erin Crews, Matthew Crews (Erica) Caleb Shumans, Chloe and Joshua Crews. Daughter, Elizabeth (Libby) Nell Crews Maddux(Dan), and their children Daniel Godwin, John Godwin, Stephen Godwin, Elizabeth, Godwin, Jonathan Maddux, Jocelyn Maddux (Rob) Spiva, Rivers Spiva, Parker Spiva, and she was a devoted big sister to Angie Morris and Laura Morris Riley.
A celebration of life for Ellen will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Christian Renewal Church 4265 Norwich Street, Brunswick. Visitation will be at 10:00 am until time for the service at 11:00 am with Pastor Bill Ligon and Pastor Mark Linton officiating. Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren. with burial to follow at Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.
