Evelyn G. Nazzrie, born on February 17, 1941, to Carl and Bessie Jones of Waycross, Georgia, took her final breath on earth and her first in the arms of Jesus on June 23, 2025, marking a victory in heaven. Known for her precious spirit, Evelyn’s greatest legacy was her boundless love for God, which radiated through her every action. Despite physical challenges, she faithfully drove herself to church every Sunday until just two weeks before her passing, a testament to her unwavering devotion and resilience.
Each morning, Evelyn could be found sipping coffee, immersed in her devotions, and working through her puzzle books, finding joy in quiet moments of reflection and mental sharpness. Her remarkable talent for transforming simple pieces of cloth into beautiful quilts was a gift she shared generously, blessing others with her creations. Her giving heart extended beyond her quilts; visitors to her home never left empty-handed, always carrying fruit from her trees, leftovers from her refrigerator, and the warmth of her love, which she expressed like flowers from her heart.
Evelyn’s faith was not only personal but communal, as she served her church with unwavering commitment. As a Sunday School teacher, she nurtured the spiritual growth of others, sharing her love for God with her students. She contributed to the bus ministry, ensuring others could worship, and served wherever there was a need, always eager to help. Her selflessness touched countless lives, leaving a lasting impact on her church and community.
A cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Evelyn leaves behind her children: Jimmie L. Meeks (Elisha) of Hortense, D. Evan Meeks (Sarah) of Douglas, and Evelyn J. Clark (Randy) of Darien. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends who will forever hold her memory close. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Charles Nazzrie, and her son, Brian L. Meeks.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Edo Miller Funeral Home in Brunswick, Georgia. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM, officiated by Keith Bates and Wayne White. A brief graveside service will follow at Palmetto Cemetery in Brunswick, Georgia.
Though her family will long for her and miss her greatly, they find comfort knowing Evelyn is now surrounded by loved ones gone before her, singing “Holy, Holy, Holy, You Are God Almighty” in the presence of her Savior. Evelyn’s life was a beacon of faith, love, and generosity, touching countless lives with her gentle spirit. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
