He leaves behind his wife of over 44 years, Holly, and their three children, Hunter Thompson (Lexie), Barrett Thompson (Brooks), and Elisabeth Cohen (Martin) as well as eight grandchildren.
Wayne was born November 17th, 1951, in Hazlehurst, GA. He was the youngest of seven children to Lula Belle and Irby Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Carlton Thompson. He is also survived by three sisters, Earlene Jones, Carlene Parrish, and Linda Crawford, as well as one brother, Larry Thompson.
During the 1970’s Wayne moved to Brunswick where he met and married his “bride” as he often referred to her. In 1979 he opened Coastal Cooperage Pools, and upon retiring after 37 successful years, he passed the business on to his sons, and it became Thompson Bros. Pool Company, Inc.
Wayne never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off of his back. He also gave back to the community as a founding member of The Second Sunday Committee, which raised money for a different local non-profit charity each month. Wayne enjoyed participating in The Blessing of the Fleet, the Annual Chili Cook-Off, and the Brunswick Stewbilee. He loved to garden and cook for any and everyone who might enjoy it. Wayne was the epitome of hospitality.
There will be no services held at this time. When it is feasible, we will have a celebration of a life well-lived and raise a glass in a toast as he would have enjoyed.
To honor Wayne’s memory, contributions may be made to donate.als.org..
