Charles Erwin Mason Sr. and Grace Towns Mason of Oneonta, Alabama. He attended Oneonta schools and graduated from Oneonta High School where he played almost every sport that was in season. After high school, Floyd attended trade school and became a printer. He took his skills to Auburn University, becoming a printer in their shop while he took business courses. It was at Auburn that Floyd was introduced to Jan Crandall Mason by her roommate, Mary Carol, who was also a hometown friend of Floyd’s. Jan and Floyd were married September 7, 1957 in Lovely Lane Chapel on St. Simon’s Island.
A few of the places they lived early in their marriage were Columbus, Georgia, where Floyd
worked for Commercial Printers, followed by Winter Haven, Florida, and then St. Simon’s Island,
Georgia, where he and his friend Bob Boyer opened a print shop. During his time on St Simon’s, he was a member of the very active St. Simon’s Island Jaycees, serving on the board and was even elected president one year. After the print shop was closed, Floyd went to work at Glynn Wholesale in Brunswick, Georgia, but when that business was sold, he took a job with National Manufacturing Company based out of Sterling, Illinois. He and his family moved to Albany, Georgia to be in the middle of his territory. After 20 years, Floyd retired from National and he moved with Jan to Black Island in Darien, Georgia.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jan, and their four children, Floyd Thomas “Tom”
Mason, Jr, Patricia Elaine Mason, Michael Allen Mason, and William “Pat” Mason and Pat’s wife, Trish, as well as his grandchildren Amanda, Matthew (Erin), Bailey, Brittney, and Kristofer, and his great-grandchildren, Austin, Parker, and Wesley. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Erwin Mason, Sr, and Grace Towns Mason, and his two brothers, Charles “Charlie” Mason, Jr. and Eugene “Gene” Mason.
