Gene Edward Vincent Moore of St Simons Island passed away Saturday, February 27th, 2021 from complication of COVID-19. Despite being born and having lived in California most of his life. His childhood years spent in Hawaii were among his fondest memories leading him to later return in 2001 to Lahaina, HI with his wife, Gina, until moving to the Golden Isles in 2010.
Extremely proud to be a Rotarian and all that they stand for, He was a Charter President of Lahaina Sunrise, Paul Harris Fellow and member of the Rotary Club of Glynn County. A true Hawaiian at heart he could be seen weekly at Rotary meetings sporting his Vintage Reyn Spooners.
Soon after high school he married Gina Charlyn Fitz. He then joined the military to serve our country and set off on adventures across the world. After serving in the Air Force during Vietnam in Thailand, he returned and the couple settled in Santa Cruz, CA where they began their family. He then started his career in Real Estate and Appraisals; he later became a mortgage underwriter. During this time Gene received his BA from the University of San Francisco and later his MBA. As all banking changes, he found himself more and more pulled to Human Resources which turned out a lifelong passion, especially empowering the youth our community. He felt if he could help give them the tools to be prepared for their first job and how to always look to better their education and skills, he could help build lifelong learners who do the same going forward. Gene was a member the Society for Human Resource Management, SHRM Hawai'i Member, Past Board Member and State Conference Chair. Past Member of SHRM Georgia State. Member of both Rotary Club of Glynn County, now Golden Isles Rotary & Lahaina Sunrise, 1 Million Cups-Brunswick and severed as Community Organizer & Presentation Coach. He was also a member of San Lorenzo Valley Masonic Lodge No. 38, Scottish Rite and a Shriner.
Gene was an avid reader; he could always be seen with a book in hand or later his kindle which went everywhere he did. His love for books inspired him to begin writing. He had been working on a military adventure novel for many years. He read and researched many topics all to enhance the building of the story that is probably a mini-series by now. He always said it had to be done right.
