

George (Bud) K. Dorsey, 96, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died on January 23 at his home on St. Simons Island, GA. He was generous and kind, always with a smile and a twinkle in his eye.
Born in Port Chester, NY, the son of Marguerite (Foster) and Harold Dorsey, Bud graduated from Rye Country Day School and White Plains High School and received a BA with honors and distinction in French from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. A graduate of the Navy Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI, he was a Lieutenant in the Navy during the Korean War and was stationed in Naples, Italy.
In 1954, Bud married Margie Dennler of Elgin, IA. An avid amateur actor, he first met his wife in summer stock at the Priscilla Beach Theater in Plymouth, MA. The couple was known for their enjoyment and talent in couples dancing, an activity they enjoyed throughout their life together.
Bud worked 35 years on Wall Street, and in 1991 retired as Vice-Chairman of Argus Research Corporation, an investment research firm founded by his father. In January 1994, he and Margie moved from Purchase, NY to St. Simons Island as permanent residents.
Always engaged in his community, Bud was dedicated volunteer. He was the President of the Brunswick Community Concert Association (now Golden Isles Live) from 2000 to 2011, and in 2018, he was honored as a Life Member. He was for many years the coordinator of the volunteer drivers for the Road to Recovery program of the American Cancer Society and, in 1999, was awarded the President’s Award by the Glynn County Unit of the ACS. Also, for many years from 1994 on, he was a weekly volunteer at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home and was a past member of the Advisory Board. He was a past President of the Golden Isles Rose Society; past Vestryman at Christ Church, Rye, NY and past Vestryman and Junior Warden, usher and lector at Christ Church Frederica; a member of the St. Simons Island Rotary Club, for which he coordinated the Salvation Army Bell Ringers for many years; a member of MOAA; past Co-President of Shorebirds social organization; and a volunteer at Manna House. In 2005 he received the D.A.R. Community Service Award. In 2018 he participated as a Korean Veteran in the Honor Flight to Washington, DC.
Bud was predeceased by his parents, his brother Joseph Dorsey and sister-in-law Sheila (Fernschild) Dorsey; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and dear longtime friends Jack and Jackie Ryder.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Margie Dennler Dorsey; daughters, Liane (Gregory Robison) and Cynthia “Cindy” (Scott Lukas), and son Alan (Andrea “Missy” née Liddle); 9 grandchildren: Nicholas (Aidan), Elena, and Ryan Robison; Samantha, Devon, and Shay Lukas; and Elizabeth “Ellie” Dorsey, Emily Dorsey (Greg Moon), and Greta Dorsey Shannon (John); two great-grandchildren, Lochlan Robison and Johnny Shannon; two step-grandchildren, Lily Lukas Scola and Robin Lukas Redd; and three step-great-grandchildren, Quinn and Tessa Scola and Dickson Redd.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church Frederica on February 7th at 11:00am, with reception immediately following. Interment and celebration of life service will be held at a later date at Lima Church in Wadena, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ Church Frederica or the St. Simons Island Rotary Scholarship Fund.
