

George W. Horton Jr., 70, died early Thursday morning at Hospice of the Golden Isles. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Wright Culpepper officiating.
George was born Sept. 22, 1943, in Brunswick to George W. Horton Sr. and Eula Mae Smith Horton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Horton Lane Mixon and Mary Ann Horton Gunn.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan W. Horton; a daughter, Amy Horton Carter (Sam) of Brunswick; a son, George W. Horton; one grandson, John Michael Carter of Brunswick; and a host of nieces and nephews and other family.
George worked for Babcock & Wilcox and Brunswick Pulp and Paper, retiring from Hercules Inc. as maintenance supervisor. After retirement he took up woodworking and antiques restoration. He was a Master Mason and member of Ocean Lodge #214 F.&A.M. He was a former president of the Golden Isles Sport Fishing Club and the Windsor Park Neighborhood Watch Association.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525; or to FaithWorks, P.O. Box 2902, Brunswick, GA 31521.
