George Lewis Reed

George L. Reed of Brunswick passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at his home. Mr. Reed, a native of Alliance, Ohio, was born on April 26, 1928. After graduating from Alliance High School, Mr. Reed was employed by Babcock and Wilcox in Alliance, Ohio. In 1953, he was transferred to the new Brunswick plant where he worked as the Quality Control Manager until the plant closed in 1982. He then became a consultant for B & W and spent the next 15 years working overseas in Europe and Asia.

Mr. Reed was active in the Masonic Fraternity serving as Worshipful Master of his local lodge on St. Simons Island, GA. He was also a Knights Templar.

He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Jonathan Reed; brothers, Robert Reed and Jon Reed; and a son-in-law, Thomas H. Dirkes.

He is survived by his wife of more than 69 years, Joyce, and two daughters, Dr. Amy C. Swan (Don Caccioppo) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Lori Reed Dirkes of Brunswick; a grand-daughter, Amy Brooke Swan (Bob Ackerman) of Brunswick; two sisters in law, Jean Reed of Limaville, Ohio, and Verna Reed of Bakersfield, CA and several nieces and nephews.

No formal memorial service is planned at this time.
