

Harlan Lamar Skarpalezos, 76, of Brunswick, died Monday, May 23, 2011 at SGHS Brunswick Campus. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, May 26, 2011 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park with Lee Skarpalezos, George Skarpalezos, Tony Niemeyer, Fred Files, George Skarpalezos II, Harlan Charles Skarpalezos, Tom Carden and Thomas Carden Jr. serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dewey Sikes, Ed Rainey, Bill Wayne, Johnny Skarpalezos, Chance Garnto and Tom Kahler.
Born December 8, 1934 on Blythe Island in Glynn County to the late John L. and Winnie T. Skarpalezos, he was a 1952 graduate of Glynn Academy. Mr. Skarpalezos received his radio engineer’s license in 1953 in Port Arthur, TX. He was proud to have interviewed Elvis Presley in 1956 in Savannah. Mr. Skarpalezos received a degree in Business Management from Georgia Tech in 1960. He was an engineer for WGST in Atlanta, then worked for Sears 18 years as a merchandise manager, and became a real estate broker before retiring. He was a former member of the Lions Club, Jaycees, President of Miss Atlanta Pageant, a Mason and Shriner, and was an Eagle Scout, Order of Arrow. Mr. Skarpalezos was an avid golfer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lynda Skarpalezos, and a sister, Carrie Bishop .
Survivors include his daughter, Lori Carden and husband Tom of Brunswick, a son Lee Skarpalezos and wife Cherry of Fernandina Beach, FL, six grandchildren, Thomas Carden, Jr., Christopher Carden, Jonathan Carden, April Skarpalezos, Christina Skarpalezos, Harlan Charles Skarpalezos, a brother, George Skarpalezos of Brunswick, two sisters, Ellen Pennell of Colorado, and Sylvia Rowell of Atlanta.
