Harriette-Lane Snyder (aka: Lee) of St. Simons, GA, died on October 26, 2024. She was born on October 3, 1936 in Clinton, Iowa to Walter J. and Mary-Lane Byers Riker. Due to the nature of her Father's engineering profession, Lee and her parents relocated to various states including Illinois, California, Texas, New Jersey, and Connecticut. She graduated from Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, NJ in 1955 and attended Bethany College in Bethany, WV where she met and later married her college sweetheart Richard L. Snyder (aka: Dick).
Lee was a talented cheerleader serving on both high schools and college squads. After she and Dick were married on Dec. 28, 1957 in St. James Episcopal Church in Upper Montclair, NJ, the couple lived briefly in S. Arlington, VA during Dick's military service in the Pentagon and then moved to Bethesda, MD where Dick went to work at the National Institutes of Health. Six years later, in 1968, Lee and Dick and their two sons, Thomas and Peter, moved to Ridgewood, NJ when Dick accepted a position with Hoffman LaRoche Inc in Nutley, NJ. During the ensuing years, Lee kept very active in the Ridgewood community serving in various positions with the PTA, the Valley Hospital Auxiliary, and the Junior Women's Club. For a short time she also was employed as a Dental Assistant having been trained in several specialties at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, CA before getting married in 1957.
In 1987, Lee and Dick opted for an early retirement to enjoy their golden years on their farm in Walcott, VT and their cottage on St. Simons Is, GA. After several years of splitting their time between both locations, they decided to take full advantage of the "gentle" climate and make St. Simons their full time home. As a St. Simons resident, Lee volunteered time at the Seamen's House, Christ Church Tour of Homes, and several Sea Island PGA tournaments.
Lee is survived by her loving husband and their two sons, Thomas (Sheila) of N. Potomac, MD, Peter of Tulsa, OK and four grandchildren, J. Flynn, Griffin, Benjamin and Bridget.
