Harry James Thornton, 82, of St. Simons Island Georgia died at his home Thursday, March 25, 2010, with his wife by his side. Born in Troy, New York, May 13, 1927, Harry was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School in Schenectady, New York. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. A graduate of Hamilton College, he was president of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and captain of the football team.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Thornton, of St. Simons Island, GA; his sister, Ronnie Bond and husband, Don of Amsterdam, NY, his brother Dan Thornton of Schenectady, NY; three children, Tom Thornton and wife Kelly of West Hartford, CT, Coleen Cafaro of Westborough, MA, and Linda Smith and husband Steve of Lake George, NY; seven grandchildren, Forest D'Esopo, Nicole Cafaro, Ellie Cafaro, Jill Cafaro, Liam Thornton, Rowan Thornton and Matthew Smith. He is predeceased by his brother Edmund Thornton.
A service was held March 28, 2010 in St. Simons Island. A celebration of Harry's life will be held August 2010 in Lake George, NY.
