

Born in Washington, DC on May 11, 1936 to the late Norman Paulson and Katherine F. Heydenburg, Helen attended Ohio Wesleyan University and graduated from Miami University (Ohio) with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Helen taught elementary school in Fairport, Connecticut and Williamsville, NY.
She studied art with locally and nationally respected artists. Her paintings have been exhibited in individual shows nationally, in Western New York and in Southeast Georgia. One of her paintings was selected to be published in “The Best of Oil Paintings”. Her paintings have won numerous awards and are in collections in the United States, Canada and England. She has exhibited her paintings in the Albright Knox Gallery in Buffalo, NY, Glenn Visual Arts, Mildred Wilcox’s Left Bank Gallery, Art Trends Gallery, and Jekyll Island Art Association’s Goodyear Cottage. Helen loved her family, loved to paint, and enjoyed playing tennis for many years.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years Thomas Alan Carmichael, two daughters: Linda Carmichael, living in Columbus, Ohio, and Katherine Carmichael, living in Gainesville, GA and one son, Alan, living in Baltimore, MD. She had 5 grandchildren.
