

Galen was born August 11, 1939 In McConnelsville, Ohio the son of the late Creed Irvin Lowther and the late Alice Violetta Lowther. He was the devoted husband to the late Phyllis Delores Lowther. Galen had resided in Hortense for the past thirty-five years. He was retired from SeaPak Shrimp and Seafood Company after a successful career in the maintenance department.
Galen was preceded in death by his parents, Creed Irvin Lowther and Alice Violetta Lowther; his loving wife of fifty years, Phyllis Delores Lowther; a grandchild, Jodie Dawson; and a great grandchild, Jason Charles Hammer; his brother, Robert Lowther. Left to cherish his memories are his daughters and son-in-law, Rose Jones and Jason Jones, and Carolyn Lowther both of Brunswick, GA; his son and daughter-in-law, Virgil Dawson and Regina Dawson of Imperial, PA; his sister and brother-in-law, Vera Faye Fryberger and Tom Fryberger. Seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren are also left to cherish Galen’s memories. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Galen was a private person that enjoyed the outdoors. He also enjoyed deer hunting. He was an avid gun collector and was a licensed gunsmith. He also took pride in his hobby of collecting model antique automobiles. Galen will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
A Memorial Service to honor Galen’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 3, 2017 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Reverend Darrell Joiner officiating.
