

James Cecil “Jimmy” Dickerson, 79, of Brunswick, Ga., passed away peacefully Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Hospice of the Golden Isles, surrounded by his family. He was born March 13, 1936 in Doerun, Ga., to Dan and Lula Mae (Blackburn) Dickerson, both of whom have preceded him in death. Jimmy has resided in Brunswick Since 1969.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Susie “Katy” (Jarrett) Dickerson; his children, Karen Dickerson, Kenny Dickerson (Lisa), and Donna Faye Dickerson Reddick (Allen); his grandsons, Hugh Phelps, and David Reddick (Joni); his granddaughters, Lacey Dickerson Nuss (Zach), Brittany Reddick Thornton (Chris), and Lorrie Dickerson; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Cady, Brayden, Kinsey, Kabela, Jason, Remington, and Ava. He also leaves his many brothers and sisters, Jean Jarrell (DeWayne), Charlotte Stone (Jack Sr.), Bobby Dickerson (Linda), Donnie Dickerson (Brenda), Ricky Dickerson (Karen, deceased), Margie Hatcher (Wayne), Tammy Liggin (Fred), and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Jimmy served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1959, and was an officer of the Brunswick Police Department from1971-2002. During his final years, he served the citizens of Glynn County, Ga., as a state court bailiff for Judge Douglas and Judge Altman.
Jimmy was an active member of his community serving both the Brunswick and Gateway Lions Clubs, he was a former Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America, and an active member of the Peace Officer’s Association of Georgia. He was a member of Carteret Road Church of Christ in Brunswick, Ga. He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be carried to his final resting place in Chapel Park Cemetery by active officers of the Brunswick Police Department. Honorary pallbearers will be Wally Bevan, Jimbo Jordan, Neal Jump, Larry Bruce, Willie Williams, David Carswell, Ron Lee, Kevin Jones, T.C. Cowen, Chris Stewart, Jimmy Carter, Bart Altman, Orion Douglas, and officers of the Brunswick Police Department, Glynn County Police Department, and Georgia State Patrol.
His life and legacy will be celebrated by his family and friends at 11AM Wednesday, May 6, 2014 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick with Judge Orion Douglas officiating. A viewing will be held from 6pm-8pm Tuesday evening May 5, 2015, and again at 10AM Wednesday Morning until the funeral hour. Everyone whose life was touched by Jimmy D is invited to attend.
