James Bennett (“Jim”) Eades, 83, of Brunswick, after the only hospital visit of his life, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Friday May 16, 2014 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Jim was born the 27th of August 1930 in the home of his grandmother in Graham, Kentucky. He was the son of William Bennett and Nona Belle Faith Eades, who preceded him in death. His family moved to Wood River, Illinois where he graduated from East Alton – Wood River Community High School in 1948. Jim was a proud United States Navy Veteran who served during the Korean Conflict on the USS Rendova and the USS Nereus. While serving his country, he was enamored with a Navy WAVE, Marguerite Ann (“Peggy”) Vullo, who became his bride of nearly 61 years.
After serving, they moved back to Wood River where he worked at Pet Incorporated among other corporations in St. Louis, MO and surrounding communities for over eighteen years. On the GI Bill, he attended night school at Saint Louis University where he obtained a Masters of Science in Commerce and Finance and later became a Certified Public Accountant. In August of 1972, he moved his family to Brunswick where they have resided in Belle Pointe ever since. Jim worked at King and Prince Seafood for 23 years until his retirement in 1995. He served Glynn County on the Board of Equalization for 12 years.
Jim attended Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church where he served as a scripture reader and CCD Sunday School Teacher. For years, Jim assisted in leadership for the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed golf, canoeing, camping, fishing, reading, gardening, and any other outdoor activity. He was an avid carpenter and woodworker, having done extensive home renovations and furniture construction over the years.
Jim’s greatest pride was his children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Peggy, he is survived by his children, Bill (Hesook) of Seoul, Korea; Jim, Jr (Thresa) of McKinney, Texas; Cynthia of Jacksonville, Florida; Patrick (Natalie) of Brunswick; Cathy Murphy (David) of Lancaster, California; and Chrissy Felton (Mark) of Saint Simons Island.
