Born in Brunswick, Georgia, on November 8, 1952, James was the son of the late Sonny and Betty Parmelee. He was raised on St. Simons Island, where he developed a strong work ethic and a hands-on spirit, beginning his career early by working alongside his father and uncle at Parmelee Electric. That early experience laid the foundation for a lifelong talent in all things mechanical and practical.
James dedicated 37 years of service as a maintenance specialist at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), retiring in 2016. Known as a “jack of all trades,” he was creative, intelligent, and self-motivated — always finding solutions, fixing what was broken, and lending a hand wherever needed.
After retiring, James especially enjoyed boating in the ocean and on the Satilla River, woodworking, and spending time outdoors. James especially cherished time spent with loved ones, always present with quiet strength and a steady heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sonny and Betty Parmelee, and niece Michelle Putnam.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Robin Blount Parmelee; his sons, James Parmelee Jr. (Brooke) and Max Howard Parmelee; his brothers, Eric Parmelee (Cathie) and Michael Parmelee (Lisa); and a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He will be remembered for his humility, kindness, creativity, and deep commitment to those he loved.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Edo Miller & Sons Chapel. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. A reception will take place immediately afterward at the American Legion at Gascoigne Bluff on St. Simons Island.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wesley at Frederica Arbor, Hearth Hospice of Brunswick, St. Simons Methodist Church, or Memory Matters — organizations that provided care, support, and comfort to James and his family.
