Janie was born February 16, 1931 in Edgefield, South Carolina the daughter of the late Ellis and Sarah Francis Peeler. She worked in Banking before retiring as an Office Administrator with John Jones Construction. She was blessed to have one daughter and a longtime companion. Janie moved to Saint Simons Island in 1974 from Peachtree City. She enjoyed her life on the Island and the beauty of the beach. She also enjoyed socializing and was quite a social butterfly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Sarah Francis Peeler; also six siblings. She is survived by her caring daughter, Patricia Jane Scroggs (Tony); a special longtime companion, Robert “Bobby” J. Roebuck; three grandchildren, Shannon Scroggs, Sean Scroggs (Kerry), and Eric Scroggs; six precious great grandchildren, Baylee Schmieder, Tanner Schmieder, Jason Scroggs, Samuel Scroggs, Isaac Scroggs, and the youngest Matthew Scroggs.
Janie loved to spend time with her family and friends. She also loved to work in her flower garden and observing the birds feeding in her feeders. Janie enjoyed exercising especially Pool Aerobics and was quite an avid reader. Janie also enjoyed traveling with her longtime companion, Robert “Bobby” J. Roebuck. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 23, 2016 during the hours of 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the First Baptist Church on Saint Simons Island, Georgia. A funeral service to honor her life will be held 12:00 PM Friday, December 23, 2016 at the First Baptist Church on Saint Simons Island. Reverend Felix Haynes will officiate the service with burial in the Oglethorpe Memorial Garden Cemetery on the Island.
