Janie Doster Smith

Janie Doster Smith, age 81, of Saint Simons Island, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025. Janie was born on March 16, 1944, in Campton, Georgia to Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Washington Doster, Sr. On April 1, 1967, she married the love of her life, Thurston Eugene (Gene) Smith, Jr., and together they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage.

For 18 years, she was the owner and operator of Maids Unlimited. She was a devoted wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Gene; her sister, Sadie Thornton; her brother, Herbie Doster; and her three sons, Jeremy, Jonathan, and Joel, as well as her daughter-in-law, Katy, and daughter-in-love, Carolyn. She was especially proud to be “Grandmama” to her two beloved grandsons, Dylan and Jacob.

Janie will always be remembered for her warmth, kindness, unwavering faith, and selfless devotion to her family, as well as her love of cooking, gardening, and crafting. In lieu of a service, there will be a visitation with the family and celebration of life on Sunday, Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick. Family and friends are invited to gather to share memories honoring her life and love.
