Jean C. Berry

Jean C. Berry, 87, of St. Simons Island, went to heaven to be with her Lord Jesus Saturday, July 16, 2016 at SGHS Glynn. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Friday, July 22, 2016 at Christian Renewal Church on St. Simons Island with Rev. Mike Murray, Rev. William Ligon and Dr. Calder Kinney officiating. A viewing for family and friends will take place one hour before the funeral service at the church. The family will receive friends at the church for a light lunch following the service. Interment with family will follow at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens with A.J. Berry Jr., Charles Andrew Berry, Brent Lawrence Berry, Sr., Brent Lawrence Berry, Jr., Luke Ari Patel, and Daniel Elijah Patel serving as pallbearers. Dr. Neil Patel, Denny Silva, Jim Darby, Rolf Mauch, Robert Vasquez, George Thresher and Elders of Christian Renewal Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Born August 11, 1928 in Charlottesville, VA, to the late Rudolph E. and Mary Kathleen G. Crews, she graduated high school as valedictorian of her class. Later she did the accounting at Keller & George Jewelry before becoming a homemaker, mother and later a grandmother. She had been a resident of St. Simons since 1959, and was a charter member of Christian Renewal Church in Brunswick and the church on St. Simons Island. She and her devoted husband of 65 years Allen J. Berry hosted a home group meeting for 36 years, did a radio program called the “Bread of Life” for 12 years as well as traveling to many countries to share the Gospel. Fifty five years ago she started the Joy Bible Study Class at St. Simons First Baptist Church which is still ongoing today. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was loving mother, prayer warrior and an inspiration to many people. She always displayed a genuine interest in those with whom she came in contact and always looked for the good in every situation. She never had a negative word.

Survivors include four children, A.J. Berry, Jr. of St. Simons Island, Andy Berry and wife Kim Jo of San Diego, CA, Kathy Jean B. Patel and husband Dr. Neil Patel of New Zealand, and Brent Berry and wife Kimberly Ann of Waverly, ten grandchildren, Jessica Delahunt and her husband Robert, Brent Berry, Jr., Sadie Berry and her husband Robert Boland, Hailey Jean Berry, Luke Ari Patel, Joy Ammi Patel, Daniel Elijah Patel, Grace Anna Patel, Faith Esther Patel, and John-Michael Elisha Patel.
