Born with natural curiosity and a deep appreciation for handmade beauty, Jean built a life rich in creativity and connection. She approached each day with sincerity and purpose, expressing her creativity in the rhythm of her fiber arts; beading, weaving, and stitching pieces that carried her warmth in every thread. Her garden, especially her cherished roses, flourished under the same gentle care she offered to the people around her. Those who knew her will remember her thoughtful nature, her quick wit that could brighten even the heaviest moment, and the grace with which she moved through the world.
Before settling on St. Simons Island, Jean graduated from Grove City College and went on to build a distinguished career as a chemist, earning the respect of colleagues through her sharp mind and steady leadership. She and her beloved husband, Bob, shared a deep love for the outdoors, especially their time spent boating on the Great Lakes and enjoying long days on the golf course. Those moments, sunlight on the water, the quiet challenge of a fairway, and the companionship they found in both, were among the great joys of their life together.
She leaves behind family and friends who will forever carry her memory, along with the traditions she so lovingly nurtured: quiet candlelit dinners in the pink dining room, delicious home cooked meals shared around a full table, and a home filled with laughter and love. Though her absence is deeply felt, the imprint of her creativity and the grace she brought to every moment will continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate enough to be part of her life.
Jean is survived by her son John (Cindy) Evans, granddaughters Meghan (Brian) Hytry and Kate Crossman, Great-granddaughter Anya Hytry, and Great-grandson Gavin Hytry, sister in-law Millie Kistler.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband Bob Sucher, granddaughter Grace Evans, siblings: Ann Shigo, Evalyn Campbell, Dick Kistler, Don Kistler, and Dean Kistler.
A service will be held to honor Jean’s life at 1pm on Thursday, March 26th at St. Simons Presbyterian Church.
