Joe Hale Sr.

Joseph Leighton Hale Sr. 78, of Brunswick, GA passed away Sunday May 3, 2015 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. He was a native of Woodberry, and moved to Brunswick as a child. He has been a resident of Brunswick for 75 years. He was an independent business owner of several local businesses, and a member of the Emanuel United Methodist Church. He was also the trustee, Chairman of the Cemetery Board. At one point he has served on every church committee at Emanuel UMC and was a cornerstone of the church. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, and a member of Second Saturday Servants, Forever Young Group, and CASA.

He is preceded in death by his father, Flemon Hale; his mother, Hazel Reddick; stepfather, Leonard Reddick; first wife, Sarah Hale; brothers Gene and Wayne Hale; and son Richard Hale.

He is survived by his wife Dolores Hale of Brunswick, GA; his daughter Terri Campbell (and her husband Kevin) of Brunswick, GA; his son Joey Hale Jr. (and his wife Patti )of Brunswick, GA; 2 stepsons, Paul Ogden (and his wife Mimi) of Clermont, FL, Damon Ogden (and his wife Christine) of Umatilla, FL; 1 stepdaughter, Donna Cockefair of Clermont, FL; 3 brothers, F.A. Hale (and his wife Wilma) of Brunswick, GA, Chris Hale (and his wife Angela) of Brunswick, GA, and Mike Hale (and his wife Charleen) of Waycross, GA; 2 sisters, Kay Mosely (and her husband Hoyt) of Brunswick, GA, and Debbie Knight of Brunswick, GA; 6 grandchildren, Kira, Justin, Lindsey, Christopher, Gabrielle and Sarah and numerous step grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday May 5, 2015 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. Services will be held the following day, Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 2PM at Emanuel United Methodist Church in Brunswick, GA. Internment will immediately follow the service at Emanuel United Methodist Church Cemetery . Eddie Morrison, Carl Barnhardt, and Bobby Moore will be officiating. Carolyn Still, Frank Still, Beth Harper, Bill Brock, Bill Peters, George Knight, Bo Greene, and Mike Patel will serve as active pallbearers. Lamar Wildes, Robert Earl Knight, Gary Williams, Toby O’ Quinn, Max Harden, Sherriff Neal Jump, Jim Anderson, Ron Gay, Alfred Crosby, Mel Powell, John Davis, Angelo Bonita, Sonny Thompson, Randy Watson, Steve Pittman, Robbie Lindsay, Hubert Harper, Hoyt Carney, Sonny Livingston, Stewart Altman, and Don Ferrell and all his friends at the I-Hop will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Emanuel United Methodist Church and Hospice of the Golden Isles.
