

Visitation will be Friday, July 14th at Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home at 6pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 15th at 10am, at St. Francis Xavier Church.
John was born in Gloucester, MA. He joined the US Navy in 1945 and faithfully served his country for 32 years.
He was stationed all over the world including Newfoundland, Midway Island, Brunswick, ME (where he met his wife, Rose), the U.S.S. Lake Champlain (Quonset Point, RI), San Clemente Island, CA, Orlando, FL and two separate appointments at Glynco in Brunswick, GA. He retired from the Navy in 1976.
After leaving the Navy, he earned his teaching degree at Armstrong State in Savannah, GA. and taught for many years at St. Francis Xavier School. He was active in the community with the Knights of Columbus, the Boy Scouts, the International Seafarers Center and the Elks. He was also known for coaching youth baseball and football, for over 25 years, at the Brunswick City Recreation Dept. and basketball for St. Francis for many years. Countless area boys and girls benefited from his love and knowledge of sports.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rose, his children Catherine Silva, Mary Turner (Dan), John Silva, Bill Silva (Sandy), Mickey Silva and Robert Silva (Ellen); his grandchildren Alisha Cawley (Joseph), Lane Silva, Dylan Silva, Sean Silva, Alec Silva, Olivia Silva and Caitlin Silva; and his great grandchildren Case Cox, Joey Cawley and Adalyn Cawley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation, in John’s name, to Hospice of the Golden Isles or the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Pew Fund.
