Sunday, April 10, 2016, is the night the lights went out in Darien, Georgia for Ron Zeppieri, Sr. when his beloved wife, Judith (Judy) Ann Delaney Zeppieri peacefully passed away surrounded by her beloved husband, her caring son, RJ Zeppieri, Jr., and faithful companion, Skipper.
Judy was predeceased by her parents, Colonel Arthur William Delaney and Mary J. Pierce Delaney. She graduated from St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing and later Boston College, where she received her BS in Nursing. She served in numerous capacities as a registered nurse, often making friendships for life. She married the love of her life, Ron Zeppieri, Sr. in 1973 and shared a life of adventure and service to others. She worked in area emergency rooms, operating rooms, OB-GYN, Labor & Delivery, and Critical Care. She was a school nurse at the Taipei, Taiwan American School. She was a corporate nurse for the J.P. Stevens Corporation Headquarters on 6th Avenue in Manhattan, NY. She was the nurse manager of an OB-GYN practice in a walk-in medical clinic. She was once caught in a blizzard on the NY-Jersey Turnpike, got off the turnpike and found a hotel, later delivering a baby in the lobby for a stranded woman in labor. She also revived a commuter who had collapsed in a subway station in NY. One of the best stories about Judy was that she worked at a U.S. submarine base in Connecticut where she successfully coached a natural delivery from a scheduled C-section and the patient was so elated that she named her newborn baby girl, ‘Judy’.
Active in Lions Clubs International, Judy became the first female club president, then zone chair in Mystic, Connecticut, shortly after LCI began accepting female members. Judy also shared her nursing talent volunteering at the Georgia Lions Camp, formerly the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind, in Waycross, Georgia. She faithfully accompanied her husband and provided valuable assistance during his tenure as District Governor and Council Chair of the Lions Clubs International. She could light up a room and wherever Judy appeared, many friends surrounded her within minutes. She and Ron traveled two years as representatives of the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation and took a puppy with them on club visits. They were awarded a handmade achievement award for guide dog promotion. Judy’s accomplishments in Lions Clubs International are many; but her friendships are legion.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Ron Zeppieri, Sr., her son RJ Zeppieri, Jr., and her daughter Julie Zeppieri.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 from 4-6pm at Edo Miller Funeral Home in Brunswick, Georgia.
