

She was born on February 1, 1927 in Fernandina Beach, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Manuel Viegas Silva and the late Monica Sylvia Silva. She was the wife of the late James Clement Cox. She was a resident of Brunswick, Georgia where she worked for forty-two years as a telephone operator for Southern Bell. After she retired, she moved back to Fernandina Beach, Florida for twenty-five years where she enjoyed her retirement. Then, she moved back to Brunswick, Georgia for the last four years due to health reasons. She was of the Catholic faith and was a member of Saint Francis Xavier Church of Brunswick. She was also a former member of Saint Michaels in Fernandina Beach, Florida. At the Catholic Church she was a member of the Third Order of Mary. When she resided in Fernandina Beach, she was a member of the Amelia Island Chorale and worked as a volunteer with the Barnabas Center which assisted people in need.
She is survived by her son, John Cox (Nancy); a daughter, Susan Smith (Thom). Three grandchildren (Tara, Tama, and Todd) and 8 great-grandchildren also survive. She leaves behind two special cousins, Roslyn and Cecelia Gouge of Peachtree City, GA. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Thom Christopher Smith, Jr.
A graveside service to honor her life will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 1, 2016 in Palmetto Cemetery in Brunswick, Georgia.
The family would like to thank the staff of Sears Manor Nursing Home and the staff of Hospice of the Golden Isles for the professional care they gave to Mrs Katherine S. Cox.
