Kay had a wonderful fun-filled life. She was born in Hawaii April 3, 1925 and grew up on beach at Waikiki where she learned to surf and played with Shirley Temple. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor she went by warship to Southern California where she majored in Art at UCLA. She soon met her future husband, Fred Harvey of Ardmore, PA. Fred and Kay lived many places from the east coast to the west coast. Kay loved to entertain and parties at the Harvey's were frequent and fanciful. Kay volunteered with the Grey Ladies, was a docent at the Seattle Art Museum, worked on stage decorations for the Seattle Opera, and was a docent at the Philadelphia Art Museum and the Winterthur Museum. Fred and Kay moved to SSI in the early 1970s where Kay designed their future home; modeling it on the home she grew up in at the foot hills of Diamond Head in Honolulu. After Fred's death in 1976 Kay continued her creative and artistic pursuits. Kay was active in Christ Church and was Chairman of the Alter Guild and Founder and Chairman of the Flower Guild. She opened Caprice, a gift shop on Ocean Blvd, with two dear friends and she began to design and make necklaces with beads she acquired from all over the world.
Kay loved to travel and explore the culture and peoples of the world. She ventured into the center of the Great Pyramid, watched the sun set on Bali, walked the busy streets of Tokyo, sun bathed on the Copacabana beach, and perhaps her favorite adventure was to take the overnight train to Venice and see the sun rise.
Kay also loved to walk the beach at Sea Island, work in her lovely yard, read extensively and eclectically. But most of all she enjoyed caring for people and bringing joy to all.
Kay is survived by her daughter Tori, her son Fred and his wife Sharon, her grand-daughter Christine and her husband Matt and her two great-grandchildren Jack and Brooke.
