

Lowell E. (Gene) Leggett Sr. passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Anglish Emerson Leggett and Inez Cathleen Thomas Leggett, and his daughter, Tammy Alison Robertson. Gene was born on April 29, 1931 in Baxley, GA and moved with his family to Brunswick, Georgia when he was four years old. He graduated from Glynn Academy in 1949 and joined the Navy in June of 1949. He retired from Hercules in 1989 after 35 years of service. He served his community as a State Representative, Board of Education Member and Glynn County Tax Assessor. He also served with the Silver-Haired Legislature at both the state and national level. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served as a member of the Gideon International for over 40 years. Gene’s love of airplanes was born when he became certified with the Army Air Force Aircraft Early Warning Service Team at the age of thirteen. He went on to obtain his private pilot license and owning several planes during his life. He was very involved in church, politics and the lives of his wonderful family. That family includes his lovely wife of 56 years, Alyne Woodcock Leggett, four devoted children: his daughter, Linda J. Frazier (Roger), Lowell E. Leggett Jr. (Elaine), Kathy S. Price and Karen L. Myers (Arnold). Survivors also include his three loving sisters, Beatrice Lee (Bob), Janice McGregor (Polly) and Faye Ryfun (Lee). Exceptional grandchildren: Heather R. Frazier, Heidi R. Frazier, Matthew R. Frazier, Jordan M. Sarver (Jaime), Kaycee N. Cody, Chris J. Price,(Lauren) Charlie J. Price, Robert S. Wyrick, II (Heather), Travis E. Wyrick, Kyle E. Wyrick and Matthew A. Robertson. And 7 beautiful great-grands: Dustin C. and Braylee K. Cody, Mason B. Sarver, Cassidy N. and Parker J. Price, Caroline K. Wyrick and Karson G. Wyrick. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Thursday at 2pm in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with a visitation to follow the service. The family will hold a private gathering at Palmetto Cemetery.
