Maria Kowal

Born April 10, 1941 in Derby, Connecticut to the late Delino and Lena Y. Matricaria, she was the Valedictorian of her Graduating Class of 1958 at Ansonia Connecticut High School, and a Graduate of Bryant College, in Providence Rhode Island. Mrs. Kowal was a retired office manager and legal secretary of Sussman, Duffy, and Seagaloff Law Firm. She had been a resident of St. Simons Island since 2002 and attended St. Williams Catholic Church. She was the secretary of Live Oaks Garden Club, a member of Coaster Mahjong Group, and was very involved with The Nine Holer Group at Hampton Club. Mrs. Kowal was an accomplished cook, and an avid gardener and seamstress. She enjoyed creating unique and beautiful sweaters for her family.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, John P. Kowal of St. Simons Island, two sons, Christopher Kowal and wife Marjorie of Bethany, CT, and Matthew Kowal and wife Pamela of Farmington, CT, three grandchildren, Kayla Kowal, Trevor Kowal, and Hunter Kowal, a sister Elaine Brandon of Seymour, CT, and several nieces and nephews.
