Martha was born in Sylvester, Georgia, to John Morgan Giddens, Jr., and Lois Denby Giddens. When she was seven, the family moved to Glynn County. As a young woman, Martha worked as a telephone operator and was a member of McKendree Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She met Arthur Floyd Fiveash and the couple married on May 1, 1955. Soon after, Martha joined her husband as a member of the First Baptist Church of Brunswick and the couple started their family.
Martha was very active in her new church. She was a member of the WMU, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Martha was a stay at home mom for her three boys, Gary, Russell and Glenn. Once the children entered school, she became active in the PTA and served as past president and counsel president. Once Glenn was old enough, she went to work for the Church, serving as the secretary for the Minister of Youth for over 10 years.
Socially, Martha enjoyed playing Bridge. She was a member of two clubs, and substituted for two others. She loved being with her friends, family and her Church family. She enjoyed planning her high school reunions and maintained solid, long-term friendships with her classmates throughout the years.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Arthur F. “Buck” Fiveash and a sister, Hilda Vivian Giddens preceded her in death.
Martha is survived by her sons; Gary Arthur Fiveash, Russell William Fiveash (Sandy) and Glenn Morgan Fiveash, all of Brunswick; a brother, John Morgan Giddens, III (Diane) of Cochran, GA; five grandsons, Caleb (Nichole), Luke, Nicolas, Phillip and Timothy (Emily); four great-granddaughters; Amora, Elliot, Lennon and Lilly; a sister-in-law, Linda Gibbs; Lana Schuh, the mother of her grandsons Tim and Nicolas and numerous other family members.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday at 12 noon at the First Baptist Church of Brunswick with Dr. Chris Winford and Reverend Jim Crandall officiating. Active pallbearers will be her five grandsons and her nephew, Richie Gibbs. Honorary pallbearers will be the Berean Sunday School Class. Interment will follow at 1:00 pm at Palmetto Cemetery.
The family would like to say special thanks to the GHC Hospice team, especially Courtney, Heidi, Lisa and Terri, for the excellent care they took of their mother for the last five months.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the First Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.edomillerandsons.com for the Fiveash family.
