

Mary Swafford “Totsy” Lane, 87, of Brunswick, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Born August 8, 1935, in Emanual County, Mrs. Lane lived in Brunswick with her late husband of 63 years, John Henry Lane. Marrying and starting a family at a young age, Mrs. Lane spent her life as a homemaker. Additionally, she and her husband started JHL Timber Company. Mrs. Lane was also a longtime member and former Sunday School and Children’s Church teacher at Sterling Baptist Church. She loved the company of and caring for her family, and it has been said by many that you would never leave Granny’s house hungry. In her final months, she spent much of her time enjoying the company and pictures of her family members.
Mrs. Lane was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Lane; parents, Hubert and Itha Rae Swafford; siblings Jean Miller and Bobby Swafford. She leaves behind beloved memories to be cherished by her brother, Tony Swafford (Mary Kate) of Dinsmore, FL; children: Jean Wood, John Lane (Donna), Tracy Chapman (Lee), and Paul Lane (Gina); grandchildren: Meredith Lewis (Jeremy), Johnny Lane (Sarah), Autumn Meschke (Paul), Angel Ours (Chris), Nathan Lane, and Jason Lane, all of Brunswick, and Jeremy (Dory) Chapman of Waynesville; great-grandchildren: Jillian, Jesse, Jace, and Joy Lane, Amber and Jeremy Lewis, Adelyn and Mikalyn Meschke, all of Brunswick, Drew Gault and Hayden Chapman of Waynesville; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Lewis, Johnny Lane, Jeremy Chapman, Paul Meschke, Nathan Lane, and John Henry Lane IV.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the visitation for Totsy Lane to be held on Friday, May 12, 2023 10 AM, at Sterling Baptist Church in Brunswick, Georgia with a funeral service following at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Mount Olive Cemetery in Brantley County.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Hospice of the Golden Isles and Addington Place, as well as Dr. James Greene for their support and care of Mrs. Lane in her final days.
