

He was the son of the late Dr. Rankin Clay Blount and Emma Katherine Blount.
Ranny graduated from Lafayette High School, Lexington, Kentucky. He was a postgraduate of Columbia Military Academy, Columbia, TN. He played football, basketball, and ran track at both schools. He attended Georgetown College, Georgetown, KY. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1963.
Ranny lived most of his life in Lexington, Kentucky. He and his wife, Sharon, moved to Saint Simons, Georgia, in 2002.
Ranny retired from the General Electric Company in 1998 as a Manager of Human Resources after 28 years of service. Prior to working at General Electric, Ranny held Human Resource positions with Westinghouse Air Brake Company and American Standard Company.
Ranny was past President of the Society of Human Resource Managers (Bluegrass Chapter), past Vice President of the Lexington/Fayette County Urban League Board, and past Chairperson of the Bluegrass Committee on the Employment of the Handicapped. He was an Advisory Board member of the University of Kentucky College of Communications, Board member of God’s Pantry, and past Vice Chair of the Lexington/Fayette County Parks and Recreation Board.
He was a member of the GE Elfun Society and a life member of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association. He was previously a member of the Lexington Tennis Club, Spindletop Hall, and Sea Palms Golf and Tennis Resort. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves, serving two active-duty tours for a total of six years.
He served as a Deacon and Elder of the Second Presbyterian Church in Lexington, KY, and of the St. Simons Presbyterian Church of St. Simons Island, GA. Ranny was also a Stephen Minister. At the time of his death, he was a member of the St. Simons United Methodist Church, where he served as a Trustee. He volunteered as an AARP Tax Advisor and at the Sparrows Nest.
He is survived by his devoted wife and companion of 64 years, Sharon Brown Blount. He is also survived by two sons, Stephen Clay Blount and his wife Sara, of Pensacola, FL, and David Dill Blount of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren Lauren, Dylan, Carden, and Freya Blount; and two great-grandchildren, Iris Blount and Charlie Clay Blount. He was predeceased by a daughter, Lynn Miller Blount. Also surviving are two sisters, Susan Blount and Beth Lewis of Greensboro, GA.
A graveside service will be held at 10AM on June 1, 2026 at Lexington Cemetery, located at 833 W. Main Street, Lexington, KY 40508.
