Bob Schwarzwaelder was born disabled on December 1, 1950 in New Jersey. The doctors told my parents he would be a vegetable and told them to put him in a facility and forget about him. My parent’s response can’t be printed here. They brought him home. They explained to me, a three-year-old at the time, that God had searched the world for the right family for this special baby and selected us. Seventy years later he has left us to be home with the Lord.
He grew up in Chatham, New Jersey. His parents worked with him until he could walk, dress himself, feed himself and a multitude of other activities normal for the rest of us. Bob learned to read, swim and other normal activities. He far surpassed expectations. He taught himself how to type on an old manual typewriter. He was better with electronic devices than many of us older folks. He loved animals, especially his cats and fish. His sense of humor was great and he loved a good joke. He loved traveling and eating out. He saw most of this country and even Mexico with his mom and dad.
After the Lord took my parents, Bob came to live with me, his sister, and my husband George. We were blessed with his presence for over 20 years. I believe he lived a long, happy life. All whose lives he touched are better for his interaction.
He was born to Joan Mellinger Schwarzwaelder and Frank Eugene Schwarzwaelder Jr. on December 1, 1950 and passed on May 18, 2021. He is survived by his sister Connie Hurst (George) and his brother Gregory Schwarzwaelder. Uncle Bob loved his nieces and nephews, Stephanie Hurst, Christopher Hurst (Ivy), Kevin Hurst, and Kelly Hurst Routten. He also loved his grand nieces and nephews, Kaitlin Hurst Hicks (Zeth), Andrew Hurst, Holli Routten and Bryce Routten. He is also survived by his five beloved cats: Cooper, Sissy, Simon, Gertrude and Allison.
There will be a graveside service at a family cemetery in Pennsylvania at a later date. The family wishes to thank and acknowledge some very special people who helped care for Bob. Dr. Scott Clay and his staff. Georgia Nurse Care and especially Cindy Gibson, his CNA for over 12 years. Kindred and Intrepid home nurses Linda and DJ and our precious therapist Casey. They all improved his life in so many ways. We also want to thank the wonderful nurses and doctors that cared for him during his two stays at Southeast Georgia Health Systems and the amazing nurses, aides and doctors at Hospice of Golden Isles. Without those individuals I’m not sure how we would have fared, but their skills, love and support were so appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, we would ask for donations to Hospice of the Golden Isles or the South East Georgia Humane Society. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements www.edomillerandsons.com
