

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Sally Rodgers; son Royce Rodgers
of Tampa, Florida, and granddog, CiCi; daughter Deborah Rodgers of Atlanta, Georgia; grandson Dylan Carver of Los Angeles, California; brother Ronnie Rodgers and his wife Brenda of Gilbert, South Carolina; Eddie Rodgers of Columbia, South Carolina; and Adrian Rodgers and his wife, Bev of Hayesville, Kansas. He is pre-deceased by his parents Ted and Hattie Rodgers, of Columbia, South Carolina; and brother, Charles Rodgers of Redding, California.
Scottie, was born July 6, 1942 in Kershaw, South Carolina and grew up in Columbia where he attended and played football at Dreher High School. He met his beloved Sally on St. Simons Island while he was serving in the Navy at Glynco and she was a teacher at St.Simons Elementary. They were married in the St.Simons Presbyterian Church.
Soon after marrying, Scottie and Sally moved to Atlanta, where he worked as an electrician for Delta Airlines. While working and supporting a family, he earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech. This was followed by a distinguished career in commercial aircraft avionics, which took the family from Atlanta to Phoenix, Arizona to Grand Rapids, Michigan and then back to Atlanta as he worked for Sperry Flight Systems, Lier Siegler/Smiths Industries, and then Honeywell.
Scottie was an avid runner for most of his adult life, having completed countless 10k’s and more than 20 marathons, including the Boston Marathon. In later years, he enjoyed daily bike rides and walks around St. Simons Island where he and Sally returned to enjoy retirement.
A devoted Christian, Scottie treasured the church communities which had blessed his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to:

Scottie and Sally enjoyed part-time residence for awhile in nearby Newland, NC and renewed their marriage vows at Crossnore in 2012.

A private graveside service for family and friends will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens, 5775 Frederica Rd., St. Simons Island, Ga. Inurnment will follow the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home and Oglethorpe Crematorium.
