Shirley Bonamie

Shirley Bonamie, 75, Of Brunswick, GA passed away Saturday December 3, 2011 at the Hospice of the Golden Isles. The memorial service will be held 12 noon Saturday December 10, 2011 at College Place United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Grotheer officiating the service, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to service time 11am. - 12 pm.

An additional memorial service will held 3 pm. Sunday December 11, 2011 at the Chapel of the Gardens Presbyterian Church, 93 Main Street, Garden City GA with Rev. Daren Russell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.

Shirley was born April 29, 1936 in Savannah, GA to the late Arline Helmy Barner, and the late Corbin Watson Barner. She worked at St. Simons Island Health and Fitness Center, previously Charter Health Center since the mid 80’s. She made many friends through her love and enthusiasm for fitness. She was a certified aerobics instructor, yoga instructor as well as a personal trainer. Her passion was to be fit and to help others, particularly senior citizens, enjoy a higher level of fitness. She was a member of College Place United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. A special thank you to long time family friend, Cathy Jones, for her support and friendship to Shirley and the girls during Shirley’s illness.

In addition to Shirley’s parents she is preceded in death by her husband William Robert Bonamie.

Survivors include her two daughters Deonne A. Bonamie of Brunswick, GA and Darcy B. Grahs and husband Ronald of Tampa FL; her four grandchildren Jamie O’Quinn, John Rule, Harrison and Jarrett Grahs; three great-grandchildren Abigail, Dalton and Baylie O'Quinn; her two sisters Corbina Ike, and Diane Holder; a brother Jim Barner; many nieces, a nephew, great nieces and great nephews; and her beloved cats Gigi and Tootsie.
