Shirley Jean Stevenson

The daughter of the late Harold and Gladys Appleby, Shirley was born June 11, 1927, in Auburn, NY. She graduated with Honors from Cornwall High School in New York in 1945. In 1947 she married Dave Stevenson, and they were together for 72 years until his death last August. Shirley began her secretarial career at Firthcliffe Carpet in New York. Later she became church secretary for Pine Forest United Methodist Church in Dublin, a position she held for 31 years. She was a sweet, smart, gifted individual loved by her family and adored by all who knew her.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband Dave; children Deborah, Gordon, and David; and siblings Betty McGuinness and Russell Appleby. She is survived by her daughters Cheryl Warren (Louis Schipper) and Barbara Stevenson (Bill Hill); grandchildren Clayton Warren, Bethany Warren (Darren Voigtlander), Rachel Smith (Austin), and Ryan Hill; greatgrandchildren Josephine Warren, Harvey Smith, and Cora Voigtlander; and sister Gwen Seelman.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Shirley will join her husband Dave in the columbarium at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA.

Memorial donations may be made to Pine Forest United Methodist Church (400 Woods Ave., Dublin, GA 31021). The family wishes to thank Gracemore Nursing Home and Hospice of the Golden Isles for the excellent care and attention given to Shirley during the final months of her life.
