It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Eugene Arbogast, age 76, on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Born on February 1, 1949, in central Pennsylvania, Steve was the son of Harold Eugene Arbogast and Wanda Orpha Elsesser Arbogast.
Steve grew up on a farm in Mt. Pleasant Mills, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Middleburg High School in 1967. He then earned an associate degree in Computer Science from Williamsport Area Community College. In 1970, Steve married his high school sweetheart, Thelma Hollenbach, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage until her passing in 2017. He was, also, predeceased by his parents and his younger brother Todd Arbogast.
Steve served his country proudly for six years in the Pennsylvania National Guard, later transferring to the New York National Guard. Following his studies at Williamsport Area Community College, he accepted a position with IBM in Endicott, New York, where he enjoyed a long and successful career in information technology and process management. Steve earned a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences with a focus on leadership and organizational studies from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1991. After 31 years of dedicated service, he retired from IBM in 2000. In 2001, Steve accepted the position of President of the North American Division of Qualiware, a quality software sales and service business. Concurrently he performed quality and process management consulting. Throughout his career he traveled extensively around the world, enabling him to learn about foreign cultures and enjoy ethnic food.
In 2018, Steve met and married his second wife, Linda Miller Arbogast. They passionately embraced the love and happiness they found together and lived life to the fullest. Steve and Linda enjoyed traveling which led them to a vacation on St. Simons Island. They were enchanted with this island paradise, and in 2020, they purchased a home and became full-time residents. Steve quickly applied for a position on their community HOA Board and eventually he became its president. He dedicated his time and experience to responsibly fulfilling the requirements of this leadership position and was always focused on the best interests of the community. In 2021, Steve and Linda adopted a “Chiweenie” dog from the Humane Society, and little Foxy became Steve’s constant companion. Everyone who knew Steve also knew Foxy, as they were inseparable. Steve and Linda would have celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary on September 29, 2025.
Steve's love for his family was endless. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and embraced Linda’s children and grandchildren as his own. Steve was a gifted woodworker and could fix just about anything. He built beautiful furniture and cabinetry, made crafts for Linda to paint and built fences and mailbox posts for the community. Steve was an exceptional and skilled cook and enjoyed hosting dinner parties for friends and family. He often entertained the idea of opening a restaurant. He had a passion for fishing, and while he was proud of his fishing skills, he often joked about the “one that got away.” One memorable catch—a 20-inch redfish—broke his heart when he had to throw it back because it was too big.
He will be missed by his family and everyone who was privileged to have known him. He was just that kind of man. Once you met him, he was your friend.
Steve valued friendship and loyalty. His warmth, generosity, and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Steve is survived by his wife, Linda Arbogast, St Simons Island, Georgia, son, Shawn Arbogast (Jacqui-wife) Mt.
