

Tommy was born December 30, 1961 in Tifton, Georgia the son of the late Thomas W. Hayes and the late Louise H. Hayes. He had resided in Townsend for the past ten years with his family. He was a devoted husband and father. Tommy was a Boy Scout Troop Leader. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Grand lodge of Georgia. He was a certified welder and certified in the operation of power industrial trucks. Tommy loved his Lord and was an active member at First Free Will Baptist Church in Brunswick, Georgia. He also served as a Trustee at First free Will Baptist Church. Tommy worked as a Clerk/Operator with the Georgia Port Authority and retired after 30 years of employment.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Tammy Shuman Hayes of Townsend, GA; his wonderful children that he loved dearly, Alicia of Jacksonville, FL, Brittney of Valonia, GA, and Daniel of Townsend, GA; two brothers, Mitch Hayes of Brunswick, GA and Dennis Hayes of Darien, GA; one sister, Tina Higginbotham of Fernandina Beach, FL. Several Aunts, Uncles, nieces, and nephews also survive.
Tommy loved to spend time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed woodworking, camping, and hunting. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will be blessed to have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
The family would like to cordially invite you to join them in celebrating Tommy’s life at a visitation during 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at First Free Will Baptist Church in Brunswick, GA. The funeral service to honor Tommy’s life will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at First Free Will Baptist Church. Reverend Chris McEachern will officiate the service. A private burial will be held at Whispering Pines Cemetery in Darien, GA.
Active Pallbearers serving during the service will be Danny Rentz, Chuck Padgett, Randy Rozier, Claude Brown, R. F. Barron, and Steven Bucholz.
