He was born on September 26, 1951, to William H. Barlow, Sr. and Effie Mae Bullard Barlow. Bill was a graduate of Waycross-Ware County Technical School and proudly served six years in the Army Reserves. In 1980, he founded Barlow Fabrication and Machine Shop, in Brunswick, Georgia, a business built on his strong work ethic and dedication.
Bill married the love of his life, Darlene Martin Barlow, and they shared 36 wonderful years together. His love for Darlene was unmatched, and she remained his beloved “Ole Puss” until the very end. They were true partners and the loves of each other’s lives.
Bill was the definition of strength and hard work. Yet, no matter how hard he worked, there was always time for laughter. He was quick to laugh and even quicker to tell you what to do. Everyone listened because, according to Bill, he was always right—just ask Addison. She was his girl, and in her eyes, he could do no wrong. Bill often joked that he had the body of a 20-year-old until the day he died, although after his illness he admitted he may have aged to a 30-year-old.
Even through illness and pain, Bill remained committed to providing for his family and giving everything he had to an honest day’s work. He believed deeply in family values and demonstrated them every day through his actions and devotion to those he loved.
Bill enjoyed fishing and collecting, but his greatest passion was horses. He loved the hard work involved in caring for them and took great pride in watching them perform. Above all, he was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Bill is survived by his wife, Darlene Martin Barlow; his brothers, Pat Barlow, Jerry Barlow (Wendy), and Reed Barlow; his stepsons, Danny Carr and Jerome Carr; his grandson, Kyle Cook (Taylor); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Barlow, Sr. and Effie Mae Bullard Barlow; his daughter, April Barlow; and his son, Tyler “Knucklebutt” Barlow, who, no doubt, was waiting at Heaven’s gates for one more game together.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026, in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
