He was born on October 19, 1932 in Chicago, IL. He attended Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, MA and went on to attend Georgetown University and the University of Miami.
After college he embarked on a long and successful career in sales. His first job was selling power tools for the Skil Corporation. From there he moved on to advertising sales for Redbook and Vogue and then appliance sales for Whirlpool, culminating in a long career with Baker Furniture.
His first marriage to Mary Fain Hurley brought him to Savannah GA where he purchased an ownership interest in a wholesale appliance distributer. After his divorce, he left Savannah for Philadelphia and Baker Furniture. There he married Isabella Pearson Speakman and spent the next 30 years in Wilmington, DE. After Beda’s death in 2005, he married Antonia Bissell Laird in 2008 and moved to Sea Island, GA. He greatly enjoyed life in Sea Island and all his many friends there.
Although he lived in many places during his lifetime, he always considered East Hampton, NY home. It was there he spent all his summers since he was 10 years old. He learned how to play and excel in golf. East Hampton was where he met most of his lifelong friends, and he maintained a home there and continued to spend each summer there.
He is survived by his wife Antonia, sons Hurley, Jr. and John, and stepdaughter Isabella
Speakman Timon, grandchildren Hurley III, Jack, Madeline, Wynn and Sarah. His sister Lynn Hummer was always his best friend and biggest supporter.
