It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Alex Grant, a beloved father and grandfather, who went to be with his Lord and Saviour on May 24, 2022, at the age of 95 years. He passed away peacefully at the St. Paul’s hospital, surrounded by his family.
Alex is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Lowell Berg and their children, Paige (Tyler Wacker), Madison (Brayden Coghill) and Cole Berg (Brooklyn), as well as his son, Cameron Grant. Alex is predeceased by his loving wife Annie Lorraine Grant; and his parents Rosa and Charles Grant.
Alex was an only child, born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. He joined his daughter and family in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2015. He was a proud worker as a Senior Control Clerk in the Finance Department with the City of Calgary until his retirement in 1989. He enjoyed watching a variety of sports, specifically hockey, and especially liked to keep up with his favourite team the Calgary Flames. Alex was a friend to all and a strong supporter of giving back to the community and his church. You could always find him chatting with his table mates, facetiming his grandkids, doing his exercises, participating in the latest iPad class or volunteering in his retirement home’s tuck shop.
He carried a deep faith and relationship with God throughout his life and his three grandchildren were his shining lights; he so enjoyed listening to Paige play her piano, was always sure to attend Madison’s dance recitals, and it was a rarity for him to miss one of Cole’s hockey games. A few things many will remember about Alex were his kind heart, compassion for other people, and his quick-witted comments that would have everyone laughing. He will be thoroughly missed by many.
There will be a graveside service for family and close friends, information to be provided at a later date.
