Archie Joseph MacDonald

February 14, 1921 – May 24, 2013

Archie MacDonald passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2013 in Calgary, AB at the age of 92 years. Archie was born in Shackleton, SK and spent his early years on the farm around Kindersley, SK. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1943 and served overseas with the Royal Canadian Artillery in Europe until after the end of the war in 1946. After the war, Archie returned to Calgary where he met his wife, Patricia and they started their life of over 60 years together. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Patricia; daughters Maureen (Dale) Blaschuk and Sandra (Mike) Festa; six grandchildren, Damien (Dali) Festa, Chris (Matt) Blaschuk, Matt (Katherine) Blaschuk, Shannon Blaschuk, Lucas Festa and Jessica Festa; great granddaughter Abigail Blaschuk as well as his sisters Joan (Lawrence) Kraft and Rochelle Evans along with numerous nieces and nephews. Archie was predeceased by his parents Hugh and Marguerite and brothers Gerald, Clarence and his twin brother Jack. Archie went through life with a wonderful sense of humour and calm that put people around him at ease. He always seemed to know how to make those little day to day issues lose their importance. He had a passion for life, enjoyed numerous activities with his family and friends and always was the one to step in to get things organized and done whenever there was a need. Archie remained a loyal and active member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 60 years. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with the family receiving family and friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to Rosedale Hospice, 1245 - 70 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 2X8.
